Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday night seized cash amounting to 49,98,000 from two women during routine checking at Lumding raiway station in Hojai district of Assam.

The cash was recovered at around 8 pm on Thursday evening from the two women travelling by the 15665 UP Dimapur BG Express train.

The railway police also apprehended the women later identified as Gayatri Halder, aged around 60 years, who is the wife of one Mohan Halder and the other women has been identified as one Arati Halder, aged around 55 years and wife of one Jantu Halder.

Both the apprehended women hail from Fasitola village under Cooch Behar police station of Cooch Behar in West Bengal.

During interrogation, the two women confessed that they were bringing the money from Cooch Behar to Bokajan

Meanwhile, a case has been registered in connection with the recovery of money in Lumding railway station on Thursday night vide Lumding GRPS case no 15/19 u/s 379 IPC.

Menwhile, both the apprehended women were produced before the court on Friday.

In the meantime, CDR analysis are being done to ascertain the source of the money in connection with the case.
