The ambitious ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)’ scheme was launched in Sivasagar district along with all other districts of Assam.
The scheme was launched simultaneously along with the nation-side launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur on Sunday.

The district level launch programme of the scheme was held in Yuva Dal Auditorium.
During the programme, live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address in ‘Mann Ki Baat‘ and subsequently his address in the launch of the scheme was arranged at the venue.
Attending the programme, MLA of Thowra Kushal Duwari stated that the scheme will greatly benefit the farmers of the district.

He called upon the District Agriculture Department to carry out extensive awareness programme on the government schemes intended for the welfare of the farmers.
“The successful implementation of the welfare schemes will definitely result in overall growth and development of the state”, the MLA said.
It may be mentioned that so far, 20, 887 beneficiaries were registered under the PM-KISAN scheme. The scheme with 100 per cent central government funding became operational December 1, 2018.
Under the scheme, an income support of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal installments will be provided to small and marginal farmer families having combined land holding or ownership of up to two hectares.
The state government will identify the farmer families which are eligible for support as per scheme guidelines. The fund will be directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiaries. The first installment for the period of December 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019 will be provided in this financial year itself.
The programme was attended by district development commissioner Nawab Al Azhar Ali, additional deputy commissioner Bidit Das, president of Sivasagar Zilla Parishad Dhruba Jyoti Mout, chairperson of Sivasagar Municipal Board Mridusmita Singha, district agriculture officer Bhim Kanta Gogoi, assistant director of agriculture department Dilip Gogoi, a host of beneficiaries and general public.
