The Assam police are on the lookout for the owner of a huge consignment of ganja which was recovered recently in Dhubri district of Assam. The police had recovered the huge consignment of the contraband near Chagolia Checkpoint on Monday night.

Police said that the ganja consignment weighed 590 kg.

“The consignment of 590 kilograms of ganja was being smuggled to Uttar Pradesh from Agartala in  Tripura,” officer-in-charge of Chagolia police outpost, Bidhan Singh Basumatary said.

He said that police had specific  information about the consignment, which was bound for Uttar Pradesh via Bengal and Bihar.

“A team posted at Chagolia Interstate border of Dhubri district was informed to recover the contraband, worth over rupees several lakhs,” he said adding that the truck bearing No UP-65-TC-5820 coming from Guwahati.

IT may be mentioned that on June 1, a similar quantity of huge  consignments of contraband ganja was recovered on the same location from a Siliguri-bound truck.

The truck seized on June 1 had 570 kg of ganja.

“Two persons identified as Sunil Yadav and Rudal Chouhan of Maharastra and Uttar Pradesh were also arrested fom the truck seized on June 1,” Basumatary said.
