Pabindra Deka, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Patacharkuchi Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) has appealed to the Education Minister of Assam, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, to take “necessary steps so that the Sri Sri Bhattadev University, which was planned in a grandiose manner by the Sonowal Government to be set up in Barpeta district, becomes functional soon”.

In this regard, the MLA recently wrote a letter to the Education Minister and urged him to start the classes of the said university from next month. Deka also wrote in his letter that the people of the locality were “eagerly looking forward” to the opening of the university at the earliest.  It may be mentioned that the Assam Government has already upgraded the Bajali College of Pathsala into Bhattadev University and an amount of Rs 2 crore has also been sanctioned in this regard.

Earlier, the former Education Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, had also assured that the Vice-Chancellor of
Sri Sri Bhattadev University would be appointed from June 2018 but, nothing has materialised to this effect till date.

The MLA also wrote a letter to the Finance Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging him to set up the proposed sub-treasury office at Patacharkuchi at the earliest. It may be mentioned that during the Budget session (2017-18) last, the Finance Minister had announced that a sub-treasury office would be opened at Patacharkuchi. Deka urged the minister to establish the same within the current financial year so that the people of the area benefit from the same.
