The students of Nirmal Haloi College, Patacharkuchi began their hunger strike for 74 hours starting from 12 noon on Friday in front of the college gate demanding removal of the principal from the college and his immediate resignation.
Following an untoward incident in the Nirmal Haloi College, Patacharkuchi after allegedly slapping the general secretary of the students union by the principal, the student union decided to boycott classes for indefinite period until and unless the principal is removed from his post.

According to the allegation made by the general secretary of the college students’ body, Manash Jyoti Das, Dr Bhupesh Sarma, principal of the college slapped him in front of the students of the college while he asked the principal why he violated the rule of the college.
It may be mentioned here that the principal on January 31 hanged one notice on the notice board of the college in which it was mentioned that the college gate would remain closed for students, teachers and employees of the college from 10 am to 3 pm for all vehicles as it disturbs the academic environment.
The principal through the notice also requested all to abide by the policy of the authority.

On Thursday, when the principal arrived at the college at around 10.30 am and asked the gatekeeper to open the gate, at that moment the students’ union general secretary asked the principal why he was going to violate his own rule and in the next moment after some altercation the principal slapped the general secretary.
The students erupted in spontaneous protest against the incident and shouted slogans against the principal.
Police also arrived at the college to control the situation.
The students’ union of the college on Thursday held one emergent meeting in the college and decided to boycott classes for indefinite period demanding removal of the principal from the college or his immediate resignation.
Manash Jyoti Das also filed an FIR at Patacharkuchi Police Station while the principal also filed a counter FIR against four students of the college.
