One more person has been arrested by police for being allegedly involved in the sensational mob lynching incident that took place at Panjuri Kachari Gaon under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong district.

The arrested accused has been identified as Akon Daimary.

On the other hand, the police also arrested two other accused on June 15, 2018 on charges of being allegedly involved in the June 8, 2018 mob lynching incident. The two accused who were arrested on Friday were identified as Bubai Rabha and Bijay Swargiyary both of whom are residents of Panjuri Kachari Gaon.

With the arrest of one more accused, the total number of accused arrested so far by police for being allegedly involved in the mob lynching of two artistes from Guwahati – Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath – has risen to 31.

It may be mentioned that taking strong note of the lynching of two Guwahati youths in Karbi Anglong district, the Gauhati High Court recently issued notices to State Government officials asking them to apprise it of steps taken to nab the culprits.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Ajit Singh and Justice Achintya Malla Bujorbarua, which took suo motu cognisance of the incident in which two friends were beaten to death by a mob, observed that the State was under a constitutional obligation to protect the lives of its residents, and sadly in this case, it has failed to do so.
