Sensation prevails in Sivasagar district after an aged couple in Sivasagar town had to choose the path of suicide on Sunday.
According to information, the couple decided to commit suicide after they were subjected to extreme neglect by their only son and daughter-in-law.
Rajani Khargharia, who was once an established businessman and associated with the film and theatre world, and his wife Rubi Khargharia, committed suicide by hanging in their rented house on Sunday.
It may be mentioned that Khargharia had sold out his house and land for getting his only son appointed in ONGC.
But the Khargharia couple had never thought that despite being parents of a son, who earns a huge amount as salary, they would have to live a life without home and in extreme poverty.
According to information, the Khargharia couple, who was suffering from illness, even had no money to procure medicines. On the other hand, it was also tough for them to lead life in the rented house and had to beg for money from a number of people.
Besides, Rajani Khargharia has left a suicide note of several pages where he has described about the harassment, negligence and the disrespect shown by his son Debasish Khargharia and his daughter-in-law.
Earlier, Rajani Khargharia, who was an established businessman, produced TV serial. He also established a play group. Khargharia also earned awards for his activities.
The Khargharia couple, who had three daughters, prayed in temples to have a son, but that son compelled them to take the extreme decision to end their lives.
The incident has shaken the minds of people across Assam.
