The National Handloom Expo 2018-19 began at Kokrajhar Rash Mela Field in Kokrajhar district of Assam with 14 days long programme from Thursday.

Organized by the Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers & Artisans Cooperative Federation Ltd (BRAWFED) in collaboration with the Development Commissioner, Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India under market promotion programme for handloom sponsored by the Government of India, the expo aims to facilitate and aware local weavers through various programmes and also to facilitate the consumers to purchase genuine handloom fabrics woven by local artisans.

BTC executive member Doneswar Goyary in-charge of Sports and Youth Affairs attend the programme as chief guest and inaugurate the expo, in presence of other dignitaries.

A total 50 participants from Bodoland, Assam, Manipur and outside states like Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Delhi etc are participating in the expo with various handmade products from the respective states.

Besides the regular stalls, a customer assistance centre is also set up for market survey and analysis of demands, needs and preference of buyers of Kokrajhar.

BTC principal secretary Biren Chandra Phukan, director Handloom & Textile department, BTC, Dibakar Goswami, Kokrajhar Municipal Corporation chairman Bishnu Narzary and others attended the programme.
