A man tried to stab an accused outside the court premise of the court in Assam’s Dhubri on Saturday.
The victim Mukul Sk was attacked by an individual identified as Abdul Baten as alleged by the victim in a statement given before the Dhubri police.

Nirupam Hazarika, additional supertendent of police (HQ), Dhubri said that, victim Mukul Sk, while coming down from the boat at Kachari Ghat located in front of the Dhubri Court premises, one individual suspected to be from the opponent party has attacked upon him with a sharp knife, but somehow he managed to flee from the spot and entered into the court premises.
He then took shelter near to the sub inspector of police who was present at that time in the court premises for hearing in another case.
Jayanta Das, the sub inspector told Northeast Now that the victim has suddenly approached to him and urged him to save his life.
On looking into the matter, I have informed about the incident to the Dhubri Sadar Police station. And then the police came and had taken the victim, Mukul Sk who sustained minor injury to the civil hospital for medical treatment, said Das.
Jayanta Das, sub inspector of Assam Police had earlier served at Dhubri Sadar police station and at present posted in Kokrajhar district of Assam.
The victim Mukul Sk is an under trial accused in a murder case that took place on June 25, 2017 at Kuchimari village under Mankachar police station of South Salmara in Mankachar district of Assam.
In this connection, a case was registered before the Mankachar police station bearing No 506/2017 under Section of 302 (Punishment for murder) of IPC alleging Mukul Sk as the main accused behind the brutal murder of a minor boy Mazedur Rahman of the same village, police said.
Police personnel visited the spot and an inquiry is on into the matter.
