Doomdooma: Makum Co-District Commissioner Niluram Sharma inspected the M/S TTC Infra India hot-mix and infrastructure plant on A.T. Road in Assamโ€™s Tinsukia district on Saturday.

The inspection followed protests by local residents, school management committees and community organisations over alleged dust pollution, safety risks from incomplete construction work and the poor condition of roads in the area.

During the visit, Sharma held a meeting with local representatives, affected residents and senior TTC Infra India officials to discuss the complaints and possible measures to address them.

The inspection came a day after residents blocked National Highway 37 at Hukan Phukuri in Tinsukia district on Friday night. They accused the company of causing continuous dust pollution and affecting nearby communities.

Protesters burnt tyres on the highway and raised slogans against TTC Infra India, demanding immediate action from the authorities. They said they supported infrastructure development but wanted work to be carried out without affecting public health and the environment.

โ€œWe are not against development, but pollution must be brought under control. Development should not come at the expense of people’s health and well-being,โ€ a protester said during the agitation.

The protesters also sought compensation for losses allegedly suffered by neighbouring villages due to pollution. They held the company responsible for the effects of its operations on local communities.

The blockade disrupted traffic on the national highway and caused inconvenience to commuters and transport operators. Police personnel later intervened to clear the road and bring the situation under control.

The administration’s inspection focused on complaints about dust pollution, construction safety and the impact of the company’s operations on nearby residents.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for affected residents to raise their concerns directly with company officials.

The administration is expected to follow up on the complaints and the measures proposed to address them.
