Budget carrier IndiGo airlines will start direct flights from Silchar to Kolkata from September 20 next.
Silchar is the airline’s eighth location in the Northeast to start operation of direct flights.
Booking process for the first IndiGo Silchar-Kolkata flight has already been started in various online travel sites like MakeMyTrip, Cleartrip etc.
The first Silchar-Kolkata IndiGo flight will depart from Kolkata at 7.30 am and reach Silchar at 8.45 am
The IndiGo flight will depart from Silchar at 9.15 am and reach Kolkata at 10.30 am
Air India and Spice Jet are the only two airlines that are currently operating on the Silchar-Kolkata route.
IndiGo began its flight operations from Umroi airport in Meghalaya from July 20, 2019.
IndiGo is the largest individual low cost Asian carrier in terms of jet fleet size and passengers carried.
The domestic market share of the airline is estimated to about 48.1 per cent as of June 2019.
IndiGo will also launch four new daily non-stop flights on Delhi-Agartala and Delhi-Dibrugarh routes from Wednesday next.
