One minor child Masum Khan, around 10 years old, of SOS Children’s Village, Hojai died of Japanese Encephalitis on Friday at around 7:25 pm at Guwahati Medicial College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati.

Talking to this correspondent, Paresh Badyakar, village director, said, “We already informed about the child one month ago to the concerned authority that he is suffering from acute Japanese Encephalitis.”

Badyakar shared the information that on May 29 last, the child had mild fever.

So they had shown him to child specialist Dr Biju Bora in Hojai.

“After that the child’s fever was fluctuating even after two days of check up and medicine so they then took him to Hojai’s HAMM Hospital,” he said, adding after number of tests, the results were similar.

“However, there was no improvement in his condition, so doctors referred him to Guwahati Medicial College on June 12,” he added.

Badyakar also said, “At GMCH, after check up and CT scan the child was found to be suffering from acute viral encephylities  with extra ventricular hydrocephalysis, and then treatment continued but the disease affected his brain and after one month on July 12 he expired.”

As per village director, the SOS children’s village did everything possible to cure the child, proper care was taken.
