The Assam government has declared April 11 next as a local holiday in 12 districts for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in the state.
According to reports, the holiday has been declared under the National Instruments Act (NIA).
All the government, non-government offices, educational institutions, banks and other commercial establishments will remain closed on the day.
The holiday will be observed in Biswanath Chariali, Charaideo, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia – places where elections will be held in the first phase.
On April 18 next, holiday has been declared in eight districts where the second phase of polling will take place – Cachar, Darrang, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Udalguri and South Karbi Anglong.
The third phase of polling will be held on April 23 next in 10 districts where again a holiday has been declared – Baksa, Barpeta, Kamrup, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Goalpara, South Salmara, Kamrup Metro, Kokrajhar and Dhubri.
The local holidays have been declared under the NI Act in all the three days when elections will take place in the respective districts in three phases.
