Border Outpost (BOP) under construction in West Karbi Anglong along the inter-state boundary with Meghalaya.

The attempt of Assam government to set up Border Outpost (BOP) in West Karbi Anglong along the inter-state boundary with Meghalaya was thwarted by the latter on March 23.

The BOP was under construction at Umru 2 but the people from Meghalaya raised objection in this regard.

Due to the presence of police forces, the situation was prevented from going out of control. People from Meghalaya accompanied by administrative officials from the neighbouring State came to the spot at Umru and urged the Assam government officials present at the spot to hold work till both governments agree upon it.

In the same night, some miscreants from Meghalaya came to the spot at Umru 2 where the labourers and the Assam police personnel were holding for the night and threatened the villagers. The labourers were told to leave the village or face dire consequences.

Meanwhile, a fear-psychosis is prevailing among the villagers in West Karbi Anglong on the side of Assam.
