Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi condoled the death of veteran Communist leader Drupad Borgohain who died at the age of 78.
In a statement, Prof Mukhi said, “Saddened to know the death of veteran, Drupad Borgohain a mass leader who championed the cause of politics with an undertone of people’s development”.
Throughout his long career he served the State as well as the people of Assam as member of the Rajya Sabha and state Legislative Assembly. His death will definitely create void in socio-political spectrum of the state which will be hard to be filled, Governor Prof Mukhi stated.
“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and I pray to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul”, the Governor added.
Drupad Borgohain, the veteran communist leader and parliamentarian from Assam, died at a private nursing home in Dibrugarh on Wednesday after a prolonged illness.
Born on November 7, 1941 in Sivasagar, Borgohain started his career as a teacher before moving to politics.
Borgohain was a member of the Rajya Sabha between 1998 and 2004 and served as a legislator from Nazira constituency from 2006-2011 in the Assam Assembly. He was also a former secretary of the Assam state council of the Communist Party of India (CPI). He was also elected as the president of Assam state council of All India Kisan Sabha (peasants’ movement).
