Gauhati University is all set to host the third Dr Anamika Ray National Media Lecture 2019 on Thursday in the varsity premises.
The lecture will be delivered by Dr Pallavi Guha, who teaches at the Department of Mass Communication, Towson University, USA and formerly journalist of BBC (UK) and Times of India (UK, India, US).

The topic for this year’s lecture is: Sexual Harassment Activism on Social Media: Is #MeToo a political campaign issue in India.
The programme starts at 1 pm on Thursday at the New Academic Building of Gauhati University.
The lecture is organized by the Dr Anamika Ray Memorial Trust (ARMT) in collaboration with the Department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University.

Dr Guha will address the emerging issues of hashtag activism and electoral campaign through social media that impacts the mainstream media with special reference to anti-rape & sexual violence against women.
The lecture will be inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Dr Mridul Hazarika, while Prof Manoj K Patairiya, Director, CSIR-NISCAIR, Government of India, New Delhi will preside over the event.
The other dignitaries who will be present on the occasion are Rajat Baran Mahant, Vice Chair, ARMT, Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Registrar I/c, Gauhati University along with other media experts as well as prominent academicians of the region.
Noteworthy that, the first lecture in 2017 was delivered by Dr Mohan J Dutta, Provost Chair Professor, National University of Singapore, who spoke on the plight of the global healthcare inequalities as well as the role of media, in addressing the issues that emanate from the health sector.
In 2018, while delivering the lecture, Dr Jatin Srivastava, Associate Professor, E W Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University, USA enumerated how the contemporary media environment has created affordances for people to engage with the society and the government in new ways.
