The atmosphere is no different in Assam’s Kokrajhar, the headquarters of Bodoland Territorial Council.

Churches, private and government educational institutions, business establishments and homes are all decked up with Christmas trees, illuminated stars and other decorations across the district.

Christmas celebrations began in Kokrajhar at the stroke of midnight when the church bells started ringing heralding the birth of Jesus Christ.

Locals, dressed in their best attire, came out in large numbers to attend the mid-night mass at various churches in the district.

The entire atmosphere was filled with festivities as young and old joined in the celebrations.

Singing of carols, hymns and lighting of candles marked the occasion in all the churches in the district.

Huge gathering of devotees were witnessed at the Kodomtola Town Baptist’s Church, Kokrajhar NELC Church and Don Bosco School. They prayed and sang carols in praise of Lord Jesus Christ.

Assam Forest and Environment Minister Pramila Rani Brahma also joined the prayers and sought blessings from the Lord.

Sharing her feelings with the media, Brahma said she would like to pray to Jesus Christ and seek his divine blessing to protect the wildlife anf the forests of the State in the coming new year, 2018.

She also invoked the Lord for divine intervention towards safeguarding the lives of the famed rhinos at Kaziranga, Manas and Orang national forests.

The Minister also appealed to all sections of people of the State to live and peace and harmony for the all-round development and progress of the State.

She also appealed to all to join her in seeking forgiveness from the Lord and Jesus Christ for all the past mistakes and learn from them.
