Election Commission (EC) observer JM Pathania met all the officials of Udalguri district who are engaged in poll-related work for the Lok Sabha elections which is knocking on the doors.

A meeting was held in this connection at the conference hall of the Udalguri deputy commissioner (DC), Dilip Kumar Das. Pathania held an interactive session with all the zonal and sector officials of the district.

In his inaugural speech, the DC who is also the Returning Officer of Udalguri district under 8 Mangaldai Parliamentary Constituency, briefed the poll observer as regards the steps taken by the district administration to hold free and fair elections in three LACs of the district.

The EC observer remarked that he was “satisfied with the arrangements” made by the district administration to ensure that the polls are a smooth affair. He said that the zonal and sector officers will have to play a key role in the entire election exercise.

Pathania further informed that sector and zonal officials would be given equal power like that of a magistrate seven days prior to the polls so as to ensure that the elections pass off without a hitch.

He urged the election officials to keep a hawk eye on anti-social elements and make people “poll-literate”. Seventy-four sector and 11 zonal officers have been appointed in Udalguri district to ensure that the polls are a peaceful affair.
