The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday issued notification for the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls to be held on April 23, 2019 in 115 seats spread across 14 States including Assam.
According to the EC notification, in Assam, the third phase of Lok Sabha polls will be held in four parliamentary constituencies including 4 Dhubri, 5 Kokrajhar (ST), 6 Barpeta and 7 Guwahati parliamentary constituencies.
The other states and union territories which will also go for polls in the third phase of the 7-phased Lok Sabha polls are Bihar, Chattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
The polling will be conducted from 7 am to 5 pm.
The filing of nomination papers for the third phase will begin on Thursday.
The last date for filing of nomination papers is April 4, 2019 while the scrutiny of nominations will be held on April 5, 2019.
According to the notification, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 8, 2019.
The election will have to be completed before May 27, 2019.
In Assam, the candidates of ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will face their opponents from the Indian National Congress (INC), Left and other regional parties.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has left the 4 Dhubri and 6 Barpeta Lok Sabha seats for its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the saffron party has left the and 5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat for its another ally Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
Both the AGP and Congress are yet to declare their party candidates for the 4 Dhubri and 6 Barpeta Lok Sabha seats.
The parliamentary elections to the 17th Lok Sabha will be held in Assam in three phases – April 11 (first phase), April 18 (second phase) and April 23 (third phase).
