A 21-year-old girl student of Dibrugarh University on Tuesday allegedly committed suicide inside the hostel premises.
Police officials said Rinki Dutta, a postgraduate third semester student of the department of English, ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel room here.
The reason behind her suicide was not yet ascertained. On information from hostel authorities, police rushed to the hostel and removed the body.
The body has been sent to Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) here for post-mortem examination.
Police have recovered a suicide note. “I am sorry mom & dad. I have done this to make you happy,” the suicide note read.
Hailing from Baghmora Potiagaon in Jorhat district, Rinki bagged gold medal in inter-college weight lifting competition organised by Dibrugarh University.
Rinki was also crowned ‘Miss English Department’ title in the university.
