Earlier, in the month of June, when Assam Police had cracked the whip statewide on social media rumours following the lynching of two friends – Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath – in Karbi Anglong, it had surfaced that a fake Facebook account in the name of ‘Hiren Chandra Nath’ was created by some unknown person with some photographs of the Commissioner in uniform.

The Commissioner had then said, “I do not have any social media account except WhatsApp. This particular account has been created by someone with some intention, which I do not know.”

Nath had then asked his officials to look into the matter and stated that “action would be taken soon”. The cops were hot in pursuit of the cyber criminal till he fell into the police net on Friday.
