Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday launched Ro Ro ship service MV Sankardeva along with other three vessels namely MV Puthimari, RPL Burahdia and RPL Barahi which will operate between Guwahati and North Guwahati across the Brahmaputra.
The function was held at Durga Puja Kshetra in North Guwahati.

In the same programme, Chief Minister Sonowal also distributed land pattas to 225 families, who were displaced due to setting up of IIT Guwahati.
He also laid the foundation stone of North Guwahati Stadium and inaugurated ANNA scheme.
He also unveiled the website of Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister sonowal said that ever since the present BJP led government has come to power it has been working passionately to bring about all round development in all sectors of the state.
He also said that for the equal development of all sections of the people of state belonging to Barak, Brahmaputra, Hills and plains, his government has been working assiduously.
The Assam CM said that because of his government’s unconditional tirade against corruption 55,000 youths of the state have secured employment in the state on exclusively on merit.
He also said that for stimulating skills of the youth of the state, Government of Assam in association with Singapore will set up Skill University so that the university besides increasing the employability of the youths of the state they can empower the youth to provide jobs to others.
The CM also said that the BJP-led government is a government of the indigenous people and under no circumstances the government will act against the interests of the people of the state. Reiterating the importance of North Guwahati, Sonowal said that the place witnessed great war where Lachit Borphukan defeated the great Mughals.
Therefore, this place personified courage, valour and is a testimony of a glorious history.
Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking on the occasion gave a brief snapshot of the different development schemes that the government has undertaken for the welfare of all sections of the people.
He said that in the coming days the government would launch several other schemes for facilitating connectivity of the district.
The programme, which was attended by Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakraborty, Hajo MLA Angoorlata Deka, was also addressed by Assam Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.
