Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has invited the Bodoland Students Union (BSU) for talks on Monday on the Bodoland University issue.
The BSU has been observing indefinite strike since September 20 at the Bodoland University demanding resignation of present caretaker vice chancellor and appointment of a permanent vice chancellor of the university.
The letter from N Laskar, joint secretary to the Higher Education Department of the Assam government stated that the chief minister, Assam wishes to hold talks with representatives of agitating student organization on the issue of Bodoland University on October 1 at 5 pm in the conference hall of the chief minister.
Bodoland Students Union (BSU) president Swgwmsar Basumatary said they have received the formal letter for a meeting with chief minister on Saturday evening.
Basumatary said they will participate in the meeting and will decide on the next course of action depending on the outcome of the talks with the chief minister.
Normal functioning of the university has been severely affected due to the indefinite strike since the last 11 days.
