The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Saturday urged the Governor of Assam Professor Jagdish Mukhi who is also the Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU) and the Government of Assam to intervene and help solve the impasse going on in Bodoland University (BU). The ABSU also asked the agitating students to go back to their classes and allow the administrative unit of the varsity to function.

The strike of the students under the banner of Bodoland Students’ Union (BSU) demanding an acting Vice-Chancellor (VC) and appointment of a permanent VC in front of the BU entrance gate entered its 10th day on Saturday. In a Press meet held at the Bodofa House, Kokrajhar, on Saturday, the general secretary of ABSU Lawrence Islary said the Governor and the Government of Assam must intervene to bring back normalcy in the varsity campus as the students are “missing out on a lot as classes have not been held for the last 10 days”.

Islary said the ABSU was “dead worried” over the BU impasse and wanted that the Assam Government make the agitating students “see reason” so that “normalcy returns to the varsity campus”. He further stated that with the onset of the festival season, “fewer classes would be held and the striking students have already missed out on a lot of classes this semester”. Since September 20 last, classes have not been held and nor has the striking students allowed the administrative wing of the varsity to function. The postgraduate stream students have been worst hit by the stir, Islary said

Meanwhile, the Bodoland University Teachers’ Association (BUTA) also joined the indefinite strike from Saturday. The secretary of the association Professor Rustom Brahma said they had sought an early response from the Government but to no avail for which they were being forced to join the agitating students.
