Guwahati: Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 16 inaugurated what has been described as India’s first artificial intelligence-driven and digitally integrated “phygital” banking branch in Guwahati, aimed at boosting financial inclusion and supporting small businesses and young entrepreneurs.
The new AI-enabled branch of Slice Small Finance Bank was launched on GS Road in the city.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration, Sarma said the initiative marks another milestone in strengthening an inclusive financial ecosystem across urban as well as underserved regions of Assam. He noted that the launch aligns with the state government’s focus on attracting technology-driven investments in recent years.
The Chief Minister highlighted that customers would be able to access credit directly through the UPI platform without the need for separate loan applications.
“This initiative will enable small traders and women entrepreneurs to secure working capital within minutes using their mobile phones,” he said.
Sarma also reiterated the Assam government’s commitment to establishing the state as a hub for responsible, innovation-led investments. He added that the government is working towards creating a business-friendly environment while ensuring citizens have access to modern financial tools that can improve their livelihoods.
According to the bank, the “phygital” branch merges traditional banking with advanced digital services through AI-powered self-service kiosks, paperless cash deposit and withdrawal facilities and simplified digital onboarding systems.
