Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal mourned the death of former Assam Minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Biraj Kumar Sarma, who breathed his last here on Tuesday.
Assam CM Sonowal also directed the State administration to conduct his funeral with full State honour.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Sonowal said the death of Biraj Kumar Sarma is a great loss to the political spectrum of the State.

During his long political career, he contributed immensely to the cause of public life of the State. He was also instrumental in getting the Assam Accord signed in 1985. His death is a great loss to the socio-economic and political life of the state and is bound to create void which will be difficult to be filled.

Assam CM Sonowal also expressed his sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami also mourned the demise of Biraj Kumar Sarma.
Reminiscing his association with Biraj Kumar Sarma, Goswami said that an upright, pragmatic and honest leader, Biraj Sarma contributed phenomenally to the uplift of the people of the state. He also prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Expressing his condolence at the demise of Biraj Kumar Sarma, who was Municipal Administration Minister during the AGP regime and one of the signatories of the historic Assam Accord, Assam CM Sonowal on his Twitter handle on Tuesday stated: “Saddened to learn about the demise of former minister & AGP leader Biraj Kumar Sarma.”
Sonowal further tweeted: “I offer my sincere condolences and prayers to his bereaved family members and well-wishers.”
