In Assam’s first e-budget presented by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday at Assam Legislative Assembly., he announced a media fellowship.

This media fellowship is for pursuing higher studies in journalism so 20 journalists can be selected for Rs 50000 fellowship to each.

In the budget speech, the Finance Minister also announced a one-time grant of Rs 10 lakh to the Media Trust organization.

He also proposed a journalist insurance scheme, for security and protection of journalists families.

A pension scheme for journalists has been introduced to provide retirement benefits to journalists working for more than 20 years in Assam.
