The chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Hagrama Mohilary, laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Community Health Centre (CHC) (30-bed model hospital) at Karigaron Maibongpuri in Kokrajhar district in Assam in the presence of MLA Pramila Rani Brahma and other Health Department officials on Sunday.
The CHC which includes residential quarters will be constructed at a cost of Rs 6.39 crore. A public meeting was also held on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Mohilary said that a health centre had become a “kind of necessity” for the people in this part of the State. He asked the people to “cooperate” so that the health centre is constructed “on time”.
Pramila Rani Brahma, who is also a senior Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader, said that under the leadership of Hagrama Mohilary “development is no longer an alien concept in the BTC area”. She further stated that the local people of Karigaron, Bismuri, Ultapani and Saralpara would be employed in the model hospital at Karigaron Maibongpuri.
Mohilary also took the opportunity to appeal to all sections of people – irrespective of caste and creed in the BTC region as well as in Assam – not to “panic” over the final draft publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on Monday at 10 am (online and across all NRC Sewa Kendras in Assam) and if any individual’s name is left out from the draft NRC, “he or she will be getting an opportunity to follow the procedure of claims and objections”.
