Assam BJP president Ranjit Kr Dass on Thursday hit back at Assam Agriculture University (AAU) authorities for blaming the saffron party over the alleged destruction of the College of Veterinary Science playground at Khanapara in Guwahati.
Taking a dig at the AAU authorities, state BJP chief Dass said that they (AAU authorities) have no basic idea of democracy.

“The political parties are part of the democratic system of our country. So a political party has every right to organise meetings and rallies on a public ground,” Dass told Northeast Now.
Ranjeet Neog, Associate Director of Students’ Welfare of the Assam Agricultural University (AAU), in an RTI reply held the BJP and Kamrup (Metro) administration responsible for the destruction of the playground.
“If the playground was damaged, why did they not inform us? Before making it public by replying to RTI, they should have brought it to our notice,” Das said.

When contacted, BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami, however, refused to comment. “No comment,” Das said.
Earlier, Dispur MLA Atul Bora, under whose constituency the playground falls, refused to comment on the issue. “I don’t want to comment on this right now,” Bora had told Northeast Now.
AASU, AJYCP, KMSS and Congress as well as the Ranji players have already raised voice against the alleged destruction of the playground.
