The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang on Tuesday inaugurated the Basapi Teronpi memorial open stage at Sokphe-eh Aklam, Lokhimon Ashram, near BR Tokbi village, No. 2 Dolamora in Karbi Anglong district.

No. 2 Dolamora falls under Duarbagori Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency.

The open stage has been constructed by the Department of Works, KAAC with an estimated amount of Rs 30 lakh.

“I am very delighted to see your discipline despite rains. The separate dresses to distinguished married and unmarried, men and women, priests and devotees show discipline. I have attended church and participated in other places of worship but I have not seen such unity. I love the religion and want to accept the religion,” said CEM Ronghang.

The KAAC CEM informed that Assam Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma consented to be present at the event but due to inclement weather he could not come.

The CEM promised to provide potable water and construct entrance gate and boundary wall at Lokhimon Ashram, Dolamora. He also promised Rs 20 lakh for construction of the building of the ME School and Rs 8 lakh from the Tourism Department of KAAC to carry out development works at Sokphe-eh hill.

The programme was attended by Executive Members (EMs) Jagatsing Engti, Amarsing Tisso and Lunsing Teron and MACs Ramsing Timing and Richard Tokbi and the president of Lokhimon Sangha, Dhonsing Terang.

Devotees of Lokhimon, a religious sect, practised by a section of Karbis, waited patiently for the guests to arrive from the morning. The devotees conducted the the programme braving rain.
