An awareness programme on the New (Amended) Excise Act, 2018 was organized by Golaghat district administration and Excise Department in joint collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Golaghat on Wednesday.
The meeting which was held at the conference hall of circuit house was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shyamal Kshetra Gogoi.
Advocate Nitul Bora was the resource person on the occasion.
Superintendent of Excise, Bhoben Phukan said the programme was organized for the Excise Department officials and help them to understand the finer nuances of the newly amended Act, which has new rules and sections and how they can effectively implement the Act with special help and understanding of DLSA officials.
Speaking on the occasion, advocate Nitul Bora welcomed the amendments to the Act and said that through proper implementation, the Act can go a long way in addressing the problem of illegal liquor in the society.
Taking several questions pertaining to issues faced by officials of the Excise Department, advocate Bora said there was need to create more awareness about the Act at the grassroots level as well.
DSP (Hqs) Partha Pratim Saikia and CI, Dergaon, Manik Goswami also addressed several issues related to preparation of case diaries and other related issues.
CMO & HO (CD), Dr Nilakanta Pegu, DIPRO Neena Baruah, excise and police department officials from all over the district, representatives of BCMS and other organizations were present at the programme.
