In a goodwill gesture Lakhimpur police on Sunday launched a cleanliness and restoration drive in schools of flood hit areas of the district of Assam.

Lakhimpur police personnel were also joined by personnel from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Border Security Force (BSF).

Initiated with the objective of restoring the damaged condition of the schools before the reopening of the classes on August 1 after the summer vacation, the cleanliness and restoration drive was conducted in four different schools across the district.

The personnel of Lakhimpur police, CISF, ITBP and BSF conducted the cleanliness drive in Pohumora High School, North Lakhimpur; Dhunaguri Khanikar LP School and Dhunaguri Mising LP School in Bihpuria and Pachim Machkhowa ME School, Na-Kapahuwa in Dhakuwakhona.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur Santanu Dutta, DSP Headquarter Runa Neog and SDPO-Dhakuwakhona Mohan Lal Meena led the cleanliness drive along with the personnel of Lakhimpur police and Village Defense Parties of nearest police stations.

Besides cleaning the premises of the wild vegetation and dirt brought by flood water, the operation also cleaned the class rooms and constructed sand bag protection walls on the school boundaries to prevent the entry of flood water to the schools.
