Somiran Bibi, a 40-year-old woman from Kokrajhar, was arrested on Tuesday by the border branch of Jorhat police and sent to the detention camp at the Central Jail, Jorhat.

Somiran Bibi is the daughter of Lukman Ali from Kortimari village under Gossaigaon police station in Kokrajhar district.

A police source said the woman was declared a foreigner by the Foreigners’ Tribunal, Jorhat in 2014 ex-parte after she remained absent in the tribunal for several times.

The source said Bibi, who had been reportedly married to Israel Khan, is originally a resident of Bihar and is currently living at Jorhat, had a case registered against her at the FT, Jorhat in 2006 by the border branch of police here.

Bibi, however, became untraceable after the lodging of the case at the FT.

On Tuesday, a border police team found Bibi living along with her husband at a rented house in the Phansi Ali locality here.

The source said after confirming her identity, Bibi was taken to the detention camp by the police.

Jailor (in-charge) of Central Jail, Jorhat, Firdus  Rahman, when contacted, confirmed that a border police team had brought Bibi to the jail to be lodged at the detention camp.
