Four railway staff members of the Lumding division of North East Frontier Railway (NFR) have been awarded by the NF Railway authorities for averting major train disasters.
Manik Chandra Dey, BK Bharti, Tamal Bhattacharjee and KK Singh – have been awarded by the general manager of NF Railway as the alert four employees averted major train accidents.

Manik Chandra Dey, loco pilot, and BK Bharti, assistant loco pilot, of 14029 up train, suddenly noticed two elephants crossing the railway track at km 167/4-6 between Hawaipur- Lamsakhang station in West Karbi Anglong.

The duo immediately applied emergency brakes and stopped the train and thus saved the tuskers’ lives and also averted a major train disaster from happening.

Tamal Bhattacharjee, loco pilot, and KK Singh, assistant loco pilot, while running the 15666 Dn (BG Express) between Ranapahar-Dhansiri section, suddenly noticed fire in working loco No – 11468 WDM3D.
They immediately stopped the train and used fire extinguisher to douse the fire and again averted a major accident. All four were given cash prizes by the top official of NF Railway.
