Manjit  Gogoi,  a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan  was killed after he fell from a running train at the Titabar Railway Station in Jorhat district on Sunday.

According to information, Gogoi, who was a resident of Pubali Nagar in Titabar Sub-division, was coming home on leave from Cooch Behar in West Bengal, where he was posted, by the Jhajha Express, which actually does not stop at Titabar.

Sources said, “BSF jawan Manjit Gogoi, on the assumption that the train would slow down at Titabar Railway Station, tried to alight, but he suddenly slipped and both of his legs got cut by the train which had picked up speed.”

Seriously injured Gogoi was rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) where he breathed his last.

The incident took place at around 10 am in the morning on Sunday.

The train would have stopped at the Mariani Railway junction, which is about 15 km away from Titabar Railway Station.
At a time when the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authority has taken initiative to remove un-manned level crossings, which are accidents prone, the untimely death of a BSF jawan, who devoted his life for the protection of the boundary of the country, has descended a pall of gloom in the area.
