A leader of the Anushushit Jati Yuva Chattra Parishad, Asom, who participated in the naked protest in Delhi along with other activists against the Citizenship Bill, 2016, joined the BJP here on Saturday.
The general secretary of the Kamrup (M) district unit of Anushushit Jati Yuva Chattra Parishad, Asom, Jadab Das was among the activists who stormed the road leading to Parliament House displaying placards and shouting slogans against the BJP-led central government’s move to table the Citizenship Bill in the Parliament.
Jadab Das ceremonially joined the saffron party along with a few former leaders of the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), students’ wing of the farmers’ organization of Assam, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and members of two anchalik committees.
Jadab Das and the former SMSS leaders joined the BJP at a ceremony organized in the headquarters of the Assam BJP in the city in presence of state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Das.
Speaking on the occasion, Jadab Das said, he was provoked to join the naked protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the national capital.
Das said he will now support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to fight against the Indian National Congress (INC) in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
On January 7, 2019, a day ahead of the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, activists belonging to several indigenous organisations of Assam including Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and Anushushit Jati Yuva Chattra Parishad, Asom staged the protest.
The protestors were, however, quickly roughed up by Delhi police and taken away in a vehicle.
