With an aim to encourage women’s cricket in the State, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has made entry absolutely free for the three T20 international matches between India and England to be played at ACA stadium at Barsapara in Guwahati in the first and second week of March.
The England team, touring India, will play the three T20 matches on March 4, 7 and 9 in Guwahati, according to reports.
According to ACA secretary Devajit Saikia, they are hoping to get target spectators from school and college girl students who are expected to come and watch the matches.
Interacting with media in Guwahati on Thursday, the ACA secretary was of the view that the association could have earned some revenue by selling tickets for the three matches, but ACA’s prime focus is towards popularizing women cricket in the State.
So they have made provisions for free entry to motivate more girls to come forward and take up the game professionally.
The ACA is also mulling the idea of organizing a zonal tournament to boost women’s cricket.
For the spectators, the north and south stands will be opened initially.
The matches will start from 11 am and continue till 1:45 pm.
Initially the matches were scheduled to start from 10 am, but the timing was postponed by an hour following the request from the team managements of both the sides.
The Barsapara stadium has already hosted two international cricket matches – a T20 between India and Australia and another one-day international between India and the West Indies during the last two years.
