The 30-hour-long hunger strike observed by the Pathsala regional unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in front of the AASU office at Harimandir premises in Pathsala town under Barpeta district came to an end on Sunday.
The hunger strike, which was observed from 6 am on May 26, 2018 to 12.30 pm on May 27, 2018, was observed demanding constitutional safeguard to the indigenous people of Assam on the basis of the Assam Accord, implementation of the Assam Accord, withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, sealing of India-Bangladesh border, signing of a bilateral agreement between India and Bangladesh for deportation of illegal Bangladeshis.

After the end of the hunger strike programme, a meeting was held at the protest site. The meeting was anchored by Bajali Sub-division AASU unit vice-president Arup Jyoti Das.
The meeting was also addressed by Barpeta District AASU general secretary Samudra Patgiri; former AASU activists Premananda Kakati, Dilip Barua, Golap Talukdar; Barpeta AGP secretary Jintu Choudhury; Asom Unnati Sabha secretary Chanakya Das and social worker Gagan Choudhury.
Bajali District Disable Association president; Pathsala Anchalik AASU president Nipukan Devsarma, general secretary Saurav Sarma besides other leaders also addressed the meeting.

Pathsala Bazar Committeee president Giridhar Choudhury and well-known businessman-social worker Amlan Jyoti Sarma offered fruits and drinking water to the AASU leaders who participated in the hunger strike.
Members of Pathsala Press Club and Press Guild were also present in the programme.
In the programme, AASU activists like Himangshu Sarma, Biswajit Ganguli, Dhiman Sarma and Dhruba Jyoti Talukdar were also present at the programme.
