As many as nine people suffered injuries after being attacked by a wild animal, believed to be a ‘jackal’, on late Thursday night at Dholai area in south Assam’s Cachar district.
Locals said the incident took place at Harinagar village in Dholai area triggering a sense of panic among the residents of the area.

All the nine residents who suffered injuries were sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment.
Eight of them were released immediately after basic treatment of scars other than one minor who has been reportedly kept in ICU for observation, informed one hospital sources.
“The wild animal could be a jackal roaming around this village and its periphery. While one animal has been hunted down by the locals, we are looking for two others who might be lurking around these villages. Our forest guards are also on the lookout and there is no reason to worry for the villagers as of now,” Cachar DFO Sunny Deo Choudhury told Northeast Now.

Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya has instructed the Cachar’s Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) to send a team of forest officials to take stock of the situation there.
