Assam: 5-year-old girl raped in Pathsala, accused netted

Arrested accused Nurjamal Ali is a neighbour of the victim

Adding to the list of incidents of crime against children and women, which have been on the rise across Assam, another 5-year-old girl was raped in Pathsala under Barpeta district of Assam.

However, the police have been able to arrest the accused within a short period.

The accused is a neighbour of the victim.

The incident took place at Pathsala near the Station Road under Bajali Sub-division of Barpeta district.

The family members of the victim lodged an FIR in this regard after which the police arrested the accused.

As per information, the accused has been identified as one Nurjamal Ali, a resident of Datirbari in Barpeta district.

The victim’s mother, who was busy in doing household chores, rescued the girl from the youth’s room.

The arrested accused has also confessed that he had committed the crime.

Later, Bajali Police Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Birinchi Borah, in presence of the officer in-charge Chandan Rout and sub-inspector Surjya Borah immediately arrested the youth for allegedly raping the five-year-old girl at Pathsala.

While speaking to Northeast Now, SDPO Birinchi Borah said, “We have arrested the accused, who was involved in the incident within a short period. The victim has been sent for medical examination and further investigation is going on.”

The locals of the area and various organisations like Bajrang Dal, Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad have demanded immediate action and strong punishment to the culprit.
