Two budding sportspersons of Arunachal Pradesh, Joti Mane and Anu Komi called on Legislative Assembly Speaker, Pasang Dorjee Sona, at his office in Itanagar.
Joti is the first athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win gold in a national athletics championship.
She achieved the feat when she won the 5000-mtr race in the girls’ U-20 category in the 31st East Zone Junior Athletics Championship, held in Jharkhand in September this year.
Anu, on the other hand, has won many medals for the State in various national level Karate championships.
Congratulating both the young girls for their respective achievements, the Speaker lauded them for making the state proud and exuded hope that they will bring more laurels to the state in the coming days.
Sona suggested them to keep up with their training and hardwork while extending best wishes for their future endeavours.
Earlier, Joti and Anu briefed the Speaker about their future plans and events.
They also expressed deep sense of gratitude for all the support they receive from the people of State.
Shi-Yomi District Olympic Association acting president, Aling Pinggam, who accompanied the athletes, highlighted the issues pertaining to games and sports in the district.
Meanwhile, the Women Wing Adi Bane Kebang led by its president, Olen Megu Damin, also met the Speaker later in the day and informed him about their proposed legal and social awareness campaign to be organised at Tato in Shi-Yomi.
The team briefed the Speaker that the awareness programme targeting women folk of Tato and nearby area will focus on various issues such as marriage registration besides cleanliness etc.
Sona while lauding the team for their good work suggested them also to create awareness on drug, alcoholism etc.
The Speaker said that the family involvement is must to curb such menace and community based organisations like ABK can make a lot of difference in creating awareness about the same.
