Dibrugarh: Braving inclement weather, residents and youths of Chinvan village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district carried out a daylong road repair and drain-clearing drive on Sunday, alleging that years of poor maintenance had left the village’s PMGSY road in a dilapidated condition.
The voluntary effort was undertaken by the Chinvan Village Youths in the Pongchau Circle to repair the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road connecting Pongchau Lower Village.
According to villagers, the road was constructed in 2014 under the PMGSY with the promise of providing all-weather connectivity. However, they alleged that the road had deteriorated over the years due to the lack of maintenance.
“The road was constructed in 2014 under the highly ambitious PMGSY scheme with a promise to provide an all-weather road to the village. But its condition has deteriorated over the years and is now completely dilapidated,” a villager said.
He alleged that despite repeated requests and petitions to the authorities, no action had been taken to repair the road, forcing residents to undertake the work themselves.
Another villager said the poor condition of the road had caused significant hardship to residents.
“We have been facing immense difficulties because of the road’s condition. We requested the concerned department to repair it, but when nothing was done, the youths took up the work on their own,” he said.
The villagers urged the authorities to take up proper maintenance and ensure durable all-weather road connectivity to the area.
