Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju on Sunday lauded the Arunachal Pradesh government’s campaign “Airgun Surrender Abhiyan” to prevent the rampant killing of birds and animals in the state.

Arunachal Pradesh environment and forest minister Mama Natung launched the programme in the state.

The state forest department will enforce the Airgun Surrender Abhiyan across the state from April this year.

Many people use airguns to hunt wild birds and animals because of which many species are on the verge of extinction in Arunachal Pradesh, which is endowed with great bio-diversity.

“I really appreciate Arunachal Pradesh Minister of Env & Forest and Sports @NatungMamaJi for launching “Air Gun Surrender Abhiyan” under the leadership of CM @PemaKhanduJi to stop killing of beautiful birds and animals,” Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

Moreover, the All Bogong Students’ Union urged the state environment and forest minister to direct deputy commissioners of all districts to effectively implement the campaign in their respective districts for it to yield good results.
