A renowned sculptor from Arunachal Pradesh bagged the Pranab Barua Art Award for 2018.
The award, instituted in the memory of late Pranab Barua, a noted artist of the region, recognizes the lifetime achievements of artists and sculptors from across northeast.
The award consists of a memento, citation and Rs 25,000 in cash.
Eminent artists like Sobha Brahma, Benu Misra, Neel Pawan Baruah, Adya Sarma, Biren Singha, Nani Borpujari, Pulak Gogoi, Jiten Hazarika, Janak Jhankar Narzary, Kushakanta Deva Goswami, Rabiram Brahma, Trailakya Dutta among others were previous recepients of this award.
Riba hails from a village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Siang, Takar Riba studied at Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan, reports The Assam Tribune.
He worked as an art expert in the Information and Public Relations department of Arunachal Pradesh from where he retired in 2007.
He is a member of the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi and the Arunachal Akademi of Fine Arts. His sculptures are on display in many places in Itanagar and Naharlagun.
