Guwahati: Personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Dirang police and local residents joined forces on Sunday to contain a forest fire that threatened residential areas near the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district.

The fire started at around 2.30 pm near the Jyoti Nagar residential complex of the 30th Battalion SSB and spread over nearly 300 metres, putting nearby houses and public assets at risk.

Following an alert, the 30th Battalion SSB dispatched its rapid rescue team and other personnel to the location, becoming the first agency to begin firefighting operations.

Additional support arrived from the Dirang police, whose fire tender and firefighting team worked alongside SSB personnel, a paramilitary water tanker and local volunteers.

Their combined efforts prevented the blaze from spreading further and helped avoid major damage.

Officials said the coordinated response played a key role in safeguarding lives and property in the area by bringing the situation under control within a short period.

Commending those involved in the operation, SSB officials said the personnel had upheld the force’s guiding principle of “Service, Security and Brotherhood.”
