Guwahati: The ST Bachao Andolan Committee has demanded the resignation of Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Principal Secretary Kaling Tayeng over issues related to the digitalisation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and protection of Scheduled Tribe rights in Arunachal Pradesh.

The committee alleged that the state government had failed to address earlier demands concerning the ILP digitalisation process and safeguards for indigenous tribal communities.

As part of its protest programme, the organisation called for a 36-hour bandh beginning May 14, warning that democratic agitations would be intensified if its demands were not met.

The bandh call affected normal activities in Itanagar, where authorities remained on alert amid the protest.

Meanwhile, the district administration declared the proposed bandh illegal and appealed to the public to maintain peace and normalcy.

The protest comes amid continuing debate in the state over implementation of the ILP system and concerns regarding protection of tribal identity and indigenous rights.
