Dibrugarh: In a tragic incident, a biker was reportedly attacked by a tiger on Monday night at Mayudia in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district.

The incident has created a sensation in the area, as human deaths due to tiger attacks are not common in Arunachal Pradesh.

Confirming the incident, SP Manish Saurya said that police and forest teams were rushed to the spot.

The body of the victim has been recovered and identified as Arunachal Pradesh Police Head Constable Chikseng Manpung, who was posted as a radio operator with Roing Police Station.

He was returning from Anini in Dibang Valley district on his bike after performing his duties during state Chief Minister Pema Khanduโ€™s recent visit to Anini.

Saurya also stated that, in coordination with the forest department, the police have stopped two-wheelers from using the route.

Apart from last nightโ€™s incident, several people had reported sightings of tigers in the Mayudia area, which experiences snowfall and is a major tourist spot, particularly during winters.

DFO Roing Mito Rumi said that a tigress with three sub-adult cubs has been sighted near or on the road over the last few days by passers-by, particularly during the night.

He added that measures are being taken to relocate the tigers from the area, and an expert team with specialized equipment is on the way from the state headquarters in Itanagar and the three other tiger reserves in Arunachal Pradesh.
