The Capital police has arrested three persons accused of stealing cash and other valuable items from the private residence of an engineer in Itanagar. According to Capital Superintendent of Police (SP) M Hrasha Vardhan, all the three accused have been taken into custody on burglary and theft charges. Addressing reporters at his office here on Wednesday, SP Vardhan informed that an FIR was lodged at the Itanagar Police Station on October 8 last by one Rana Tok, an engineer by profession, in which he reported that around Rs 12 lakh in cash and some valuable ornaments were stolen from his private residence in B Sector.
Based on the FIR, a case under Section-454/380 IPC was registered and a police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Govind Arangham was constituted to solve the case. Accordingly, the police arrested one Dilip Kharia (the domestic help of the complainant) on October 9 last on the basis of CCTV footage. The police later also found that one Karim Khan (driver of the complainant a few years ago) was also involved in the crime.
As Karim Khan’s whereabouts could not be traced initially, the police on October 13 last apprehended Salim Khan (Karim’s younger brother) and based on his inputs a team was sent to Tinsukia. After a thorough search operation the police came to know that Karim was in Khonsa and he was arrested by the Khonsa Police on October 17 last and later handed over to Itanagar Police.
Three local beads and Rs 2.5 lakh was later recovered from the trio. A motorcycle and car which the trio had purchased from the stolen money was also seized by the police.
