Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly speaker Pasang D. Sona has been unanimously elected as chairman of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region, Zone-III.

Outgoing chairman and speaker of the Assam legislative assembly, Hitendra Nath Goswami formally handed over the charge to Sona.

“I am truly humbled and honoured to be elected as the chairman of the CPA India Region (Zone-III),” Pasang D Sona said.

“I thank my predecessor Hitendra Nath Goswami and speakers of the other northeastern states for entrusting me with the responsibilities. I look forward to working with them for better regional cooperation and development,” he said.

Sona sought equal contribution from all the speakers to promote knowledge of the constitutional, legislative, economic, social and cultural aspects of parliamentary democracy.

Goswami gave a detailed overview of the CPA India Region, Zone-III.

The scheduled CPA conference could not take place in Itanagar due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

He also informed the gathering about various steps taken by him as chairman to strengthen the association and to make the North East Region Institute of Parliamentary Studies & Research (NERIPSTR) proactive.

“I am very much optimistic that under the leadership of Sona, the activities of CPA India Region, Zone-III, will continue to flourish and he will be able to take the activities of our zone to a much higher level,” Goswami said.
