Arunachal Pradish Legislative Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at Mechuka from Itanagar on Saturday.
This was Sona’s first official visit to his home constituency after assuming the post of Legislative Assembly Speaker.
Sona, who represents the Mechuka Assembly Constituency, had retained his seat for the third consecutive term in the Assembly elections this year by defeating his nearest rival Tori Ragor.
He defeated Ragor, the candidate of the National People’s Party (NPP), by a close margin of 68 votes.
In June this year, Sona was elected as the new Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner M Komut, the superintendent of police of Shi-Yomi, gaon burahs, students and public received Sona at the Gandhi Market in Chorten Point here.
The Speaker then had a short interaction with the officials and public after which he was given a guard of honour by the district police.
Sona will be hoisting the national flag at Tato, the headquarters of newly created Shi-Yomi district on August 15.
